Fasting means not consuming anything except plain water during the specified duration(usually 10-12 hours).Do not make any major changes to your diet on the day before, take normal diet as usually do. Do not chew tobacco, smoke or exercise during that period. However, it's important to continue taking prescribed medication as instructed by your doctor, during the fasting period. In case of doubt please contact your treating Dr. or our Helpline
Tell your provider if you eat or drink before your test. Sometimes that may not be an issue in getting accurate results while sometimes you may need to reschedule the test for another time when you can fast to make sure you get accurate results.
You'll be able to eat and drink as soon as your test is over. You may want to bring a snack with you, so you can eat right away.
Unless specifically instructed by your treating doctor, it's important not to skip any prescribed medication before testing, as this could lead to errors in the results. If you're unsure, reach out to your lab or treating doctor for guidance.
Before the test, you must observe an overnight fast of 10-12 hours. Following this fasting period, consume a typical meal that you would typically have during that time, ensuring it contains at least 75 grams of carbohydrates. Take note of the time when you commence eating; the blood test should be conducted 2 hours after the first bite of food. It's essential to complete your meal within 15-20 minutes. Arrive at the laboratory at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. During the two-hour interval, it is recommended to rest and avoid strenuous physical activity. For instance, if you begin your meal at 12:00 pm, blood should be drawn at 2:00 pm.
Preparation: The first urine sample as you get in the morning is preferred ,however samples will give good results even if given throughout the day. You need to collect a special sterile urine container from the laboratory before testing.
Preparation: Prior to the test, it's important to consult with the laboratory regarding your test requirements and obtain the designated container for sample collection. Please note that the test necessitates a minimum of one day for a complete sample collection.
On the first day of the test, upon waking up in the morning, void your first urine into the toilet, not the collection container. Your sample collection begins from this point: throughout day 1, gather all urine passed during the day and night into the designated container for a continuous 24-hour period.
On the second day, upon waking up in the morning, void your urine directly into the collection container to finalize your sample collection.
Your test collection is now concluded. It's important to adhere to the following notes regarding storage: Always ensure the container is tightly capped and store it in a cool place, preferably refrigerated, throughout the collection period. Remember to label the container with your name, date, time of completion, and follow the provided instructions for returning it to the laboratory. Please maintain the container in the refrigerator at a temperature of 2-8°C. Avoid freezing the sample.
Please refrain from participating in any sexual activities for at least two days, and ideally not exceeding five to seven days before collecting your sample. This involves avoiding both sexual intercourse and ejaculation, including through masturbation or nightfall. When visiting the lab, ensure a relaxed state, free from any stress or tension, and provide your complete ejaculate in the labelled container provided.
